Abstract:

Due to the increasing number of microgrids (MGs) in modern power systems, more intelligence and flexible controllers and parameters optimization are required to ensure the capability of maintaining a generation-load balance and robustness against system changes and disturbances. In MG systems Renewable Energy Resources (RES) are mostly used as alternative generation units which increased the systems complexity and uncertainty. The natural changes in RESs output and usual uncertainties in power systems cause the weak performance of the classic controllers to provide a proper response characteristics over the wide range of operating conditions. In order to meet this challenge, the present paper propose a combination of PID-type Fuzzy Controller and Related Rate Observer Fuzzy tuner Optimized by particle swarm optimization (PSO) techniques. The control design methodology is examined on an AC MG as the case study. The performance of the proposed intelligent control is compared with the pure PID-type Fuzzy Controller and the Ziegler-Nichols PI control design methods.
