Deformation and Movement of a Droplet Sitting on a Surface in a Fluid Flow abstract
Deformation and movement of a three-dimensional droplet sitting on solid surface is studied. To simulate the droplet we use the Volume of Fluid (VOF) approach to track the interface and the Piecewise Linear Interface Calculation (PLIC) model to reconstruct the interface. Four different surface tension models are examined by simulating a stationary three-dimensional drop in a gas and it is found out that the SGIP model has the best performance as a surface tension model. Then, this model is used to simulate the deformation and movement of a droplet on a solid surface while flow of surrounding fluid is moving on top of it and the fluid flow causes the droplet to deform and move. The effect of contact angle, droplet radius and the fluid velocity on the droplet motion is considered.
