Abstract:
Plasma electrolytic oxidation coating process on AZ31 magnesium alloy was performed in the alkaline electrolyte containing alumina nanoparticle. Morphology and chemical composition of coatings were investigated using scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive spectroscopy, respectively. Corrosion behavior of coating of contain nanoparticles, without nanoparticles and base metal was measured through polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests in 3.5% NaCl solution. Microscopic evaluation showed that the addition of nanoparticles has been reduced porosity value of coating. Electrochemical studies revealed that the corrosion resistance of the coating contaning nanoparticle compared to the coating without nano particle has been a significant increase
