Abstract:

several processes for biodiesel fuel production have been developed, among which transesterification using alkali-catalysis gives high levels of conversion of triglycerides to their corresponding methyl esters in short reaction times. This process has therefore been widely utilized for biodiesel fuel production in a nimber of countries. In order to produce biodiesel fuel by transesterification, the Ireland method was used in a research work, the outcome of which is the present paper. This study was initiated to examine the possibility of transesterifying a WVOs for the production of biodiesel produced from WVOs was measured and compared with ASTM standards. Comparison shows that selected method is useful and quality of produced biodiesel passes the existing international valid standards. The flash point and pour point of produced biodiesel are 182˚C and -3˚C respectively. The kinematic viscosity at 40˚C is 4.15 mm 2/s, coompared with standard limits of 1.9-6. The total sulfur content of the produced biodiesel fuel is 18 ppm which is 500 ppm. This means that the sulfur cintent of the produced biodiesel is 28 times less than the existing diesel fuel sulfur content used in the diesel vehicles operating in tehran city.
