Abstract:
The earthquake is a natural disaster in earthquake-prone areas such as Iran that has alwayscaused loss of life and damages. Many towns and rural areas are located in places that activefaults pass through them or are nearby. Some parts of the south and west of Kurdistanprovince are prone to earthquake risk. Kamyaran in the south of the Province is in the vicinityof Sartakht and Morvarid active faults. This study shows that the foundations of town in thecentral and northern parts on the igneous rocks are more appropriate than the other parts onquaternary sediments. Based on the data of happened earthquakes, the seismic potential mapof the Kamyarn reveals that the risk of large magnitude earthquakes and their frequencyintensify from south and southwest to north and northeast, where the Sartakht and MorvaridFaults are located. So it seems that southwest and western parts of the city are better suitedfor urban construction.
