Abstract:

A complex phenomenon that is effective on the spillway is cavitation. This process occurs inhigh speed and low pressure on the spillway. Parameters such as pressure, discharge, strength ofmaterials, time of operation and the amount of air entering involved in the occurrence ofcavitation. Laboratory analysis of this phenomenon is due to the high cost of building physicalmodels and laboratory equipment. Development of numerical methods would be considered asalternative laboratory methods. In this study, using a numerical model cavitation was evaluatedstepped spillway on Zhavh dam. To analyze the probability of occurrence of this phenomenon indifferent sections was calculated by Flow-3D with cavitation index on stepped spillway Zhavehdam. RNG was used for turbulence modeling and VOF was used free-surface flow.Then,cavitation index of numerical and physical models were compared, indicating good agreementbetween the models. So study this phenomenon is very important to design the spillway dam.
