How Much Carbon Dioxide Does One Kilowatt-Hours Of Electrical Energy Emit In Iran abstract
Electricity sector is a fundamental industry infrastructure. For the first time, this paper presents a carbon footprint life cycle assessment for Genaveh combined cycle power plant in comparison to other combined cycles in Iran electricity production network. For this purpose, a pseudo comprehensive model is applied on LCA frameworks to estimate the carbon footprint of Genaveh power plant by integrating affecting parameters viz. emission of fuel processing, emission of fuel transfer, emission of fuel combustion, degradation, internal consumption, site ambient condition (relative humidity, ambient temperature and ambient pressure), and transmission and distribution losses. The results show that The average carbon footprint of Iran power sector from business to business point of view is 574 g CO2 eq/ kWh of energy produced. Transmission loss and distribution loss are also two causes for reduction of delivered energy to consumers. According to World Bank statistics, Iran network loss is 3.54 % for transmission and 15 % for distribution in year 2013. Geneveh combined cycle power plant operates unsustainable among the other combined cycle power plants in Iran. The most important unsustainability is due to long operation on fuel oil.
