The Effectiveness of Meta cognitive Group Therapy on Maladaptive Schemas in Patients with Dependent Personality Disorder

This study attempted to evaluate the effectiveness of metacognitive group therapy on maladaptive schemas in patients with dependent personality disorder referred to Abadan Counseling Centers. Of the 96 patients referring to Abadan counseling and psychological services centers from April 21 to June 21, 2015, 21 cases with dependent personality disorder were selected through convenience sampling and then randomly assigned to control group (n=10) and experimental group (n=11). The tools used in this research included Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (1987) and Young Schema Questionnaire (2003). This was a quasi-experimental research conducted on experimental and control groups through pre-test, post-test and follow-up phases. At first, the schemas were administered for both groups as pre-test. Then, the intervention (metacognitive therapy) was administered on the experimental group during 8 sessions. Finally, the post-test and post-test and follow-up test (one month later) were performed for both groups.Based on multivariate analysis of covariance, the results demonstrated that the metacognitive therapy group increased the maladaptive schemas (p<0.001) in the post-test and follow-up of the experimental group compared to the control group.
