Coculturing Rhizobium with Chlamydomonas reinhardtii improves biohydrogen production abstract

Nowadays, hydrogen fuel is mainly derived from fossil fuels. High energy consumption and CO2 emission has encouraged human to search for sustainable and clean technologies to produce hydrogen. Hydrogen production by microalgae is a promising alternative in this regard. Among various photosynthetic microalgae able to produce hydrogen, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii is a model organism widely used to study hydrogen production. Low yield of hydrogen production in these systems has limited the industrial application of these technologies. In this study co-culture of Rhizobium with C. reinhardtii could improve hydrogen production 4 times.
