Bench-Scale Experiment of Sawdust and Steel Furnace Slag in a Dual Media Recirculating Bio-Filter for Restaurant Grey-Water Treatment abstract
A bench scale of dual media recirculating bio-filter (RBF) has been studied for treating restaurant grey-water. The raw grey-water samples have been collected from the restaurant in university of Kashan and served as the raw wastewater into the RBF system. The bio-filters were operated with the recycle ratio of R=3:1, the frequency dosing 48 times per day, and the surface hydraulic loading rate of HLR=0.2 m3/m2.d. Sawdust and steel furnace slag (SFS) have been used as the filter media and BOD5, COD, NO3, PO4, and Turbidity in the raw wastewater and the effluent of filter bed have been tested. The average removal efficiency of these parameters were 99.18%, 98.55%, 94.34%, 70%, and 98.4% respectively, which indicate the appropriate performance of this system for restaurant grey-water treatment. Also, the effluent quality parameters have been compared with WHO, FAO, EPA, Iran and Jordan standards. The parameters were in permeable level for agriculture sector based on Iran and Jordan standards.
