Antioxidant Activity of Hesperidin-Loaded Chitosan Nanoparticles abstract

Hesperidin is a flavonoid found abundantly in sweet orange peel. The low serum stability of hesperidin has limited its clinical application. Flavonoid-polymer conjugates have been proposed for bio-medical applications with the aim to increase the stability of the antioxidant molecule prolonging its duration of action. In this work, hesperidin was isolated of from orange peel and hesperidin(HD)-loaded chitosan (CS) nanoparticles were prepared by ionic gelation of CS with tripolyphosphate (TPP) anions. The antioxidant activity of the H-loaded CS nanoparticles was tested by 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH•) radical method which indicates that inclusion of hesperidin in chitosan nanopaticles may be useful in improving the bioavailabilty of hesperidin
