Abstract:
Introduction: Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most common cancers among women, and it has the highest mortality rates in the world. Lipids, especially fatty acids with more than one double bond are influenced by free radicals. These fatty acids are the main components of cell membranes, and the highest oxidative damage is incurred. The aim of this study was to measure serum levels of HDL in patients with breast cancer. Materials and Methods: In this study, 38 female patients with breast cancer (mean age, 40/78 ± 0/847 years) and 38 healthy women clinically ( mean age, 39/61 ± 0/927 years) were selected. After collecting samples and separation of their serum, the samples were kept at -70 ° C until examination. In this study, serum levels of HDL were measured with enzymatic methods and by using kits Pars azmon. Results: In this study, levels of the serum HDL were significantly reduction in patients withBC compared to controls. Conclusion: In this study, the reduced of HDL cholesterol levels among pre-menopausal women could be as a marker for an increased risk of breast cancer. Results showed that changes in HDL-C are associated with cancer, and it can be used in the approach of diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic interventions in cancer patients. Low levels of HDL-C in patients with cancer can be explained by immense potential of HDL-C that prevents from oxidative damage LDL-C in cell membranes and therefore lipid peroxidation screw.
