Assessment of Breast Self- Examination in the prevention of breast cancer in women Khorramabad

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer occurring among women .One of methodology for breast cancer screening is self examination Despite of the importance of screening programs , majority women do not perform or don’t correctly perform BES technique due to lack of knowledge about it. The aim of this study was to determine Breast Self- Examination in the prevention of breast cancer in women Khorramabad. Method: A descriptive –analytical study has been done on 420 females in health centers that selected by randomize. The data collected through valid and reliable questionnaire with three parts including demographic information, knowledge and behavior of breast self-examination. Results: Results found that 21/6% women had good knowledge about cancer, 9/7% about breast selfexamination. . 88/3% of women never examined their breast. There was a significant correlation between educational and behavior with job and cancer in family.Conclusion: Most of the women had poor knowledge and performance regarding the breast cancer and its screening test. With respect to the importance and efficacy of self-examination in early diagnosis we highlysuggest educational programs to promote knowledge, behavior, and performance towards the breast cancer
