Abstract:
Structural failure analysis of a high speed craft under slamming loads is a comprehensive and essential study for the aim of the design. In this work, the failure behavior of crossply woven glass/ polyester laminates are experimentally studied. Further, the slamming acceleration of a high speed composite catamaran is calculated using the relevant DNV rules in order to be used in the nonlinear dynamic finite element analysis. The discretised model of the catamaran is prepared where the failure specifications of its orthotropic layers and the slamming acceleration are applied for the two cases of hollow landing as well crest landing . The failure of layers at some points of the structure are observed with the increase of the slamming acceleration due to the increase of the wave height.
