Abstract:
AISI 316L-type stainless steel was coated with300-nm-thick Mn thin films and post-annealed at 673 Kwith a constant flow of oxygen (250 cm3/min). The filmscrystallographic and morphological structures were analyzedusing X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic forcemicroscopy (AFM) before corrosion test and scanningelectron microscopy (SEM) after corrosion test. Corrosionbehavior of the samples in 0.3, 0.5 and 0.6 M NaCl solutionswas investigated by means of potentiodynamic andelectrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. Results showed that the corrosion inhibition of annealedMn/SS316L in all NaCl solutions with different concentrationsis higher than that of bare SS316L. A correlation isachieved between the structural variation of the films withthe potentiodynamic and EIS corrosion results.
