Abstract:

This paper presents a novel islanding detection method for wind turbine with doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) using rate of change of DC voltage of rotor-side converter (dVdc/dt) signal. The maximum changes magnitude of (dVdc/dt) is continuously compared with the predetermined threshold value. If the variations of it are exceeds the threshold value, it is concluded that the non-islanding has occurred. Otherwise, it is considered as the islanding event. The proposed method has been evaluated in the presence of DFIG-based wind turbine using MATLAB software. The simulation results show that the proposed method has higher sensitivity than other passive parameters and capable to identify the islanding even with zero non-detection zone (NDZ).
