Abstract:

This paper presents a novel passive islanding detection method for synchronous distributed generation based on rate of change of direct quantity of stator current (dId /dt) and rate of change of quadratic quantity of stator current (dIq/dt) signals. The maximum changes magnitude of (dId/dt) and (dIq/dt) are continuously compared with the predetermined threshold values. If the both values are exceeds the threshold values, it is concluded that the islanding has occurred. Otherwise, it is considered as the non-islanding event. The proposed method has been evaluated in the presence of synchronous DG by MATLAB software. The simulation results indicate that the proposed method capable to identify the islanding rapidly and accurately even with zero non-detection zone (NDZ).
