Experimental and Numerical investigation of turbocharger matching and Its Effect on engine exhaust emissions of a direct injection diesel engine abstract

The operation of four – stroke diesel engines application has a strong influence on gaseous and particulates emissions. Turbocharger system in diesel engines plays an important role for engine performance and emissions obtaining treatment of combustion. In this study, effects of turbocharger system on engine performance and exhaust emissions have been investigated. Experiments have been performed on a turbocharged intercooler diesel engine with 4-stroke, direct injection. Also numerical study was performed to investigate the global incylinder characteristics of turbocharger system when fuel was injected at various incylinder pressures. Emissions and engine performance values such as torque and specific fuel consumption have been measured both full and part loads by changing turbocharger system for different throttle positions. The results show that using turbocharger system matched with engine, could significantly improve the PM emission and NOx-PM tradeoffs.
