Immunohistochemistry in Lung Cancers abstract

Immunohistochemistry plays a critical role in the classification of tumors into subtypes andfor assessing biomarkers for accurate therapeutic decision. Immunohistochemistry is a widelyavailable technique that is less challenging and can provide clinically meaningful results quicklyand cost-efficiently in comparison with other techniques.Pathologists are required to classify lung cancer into specific subtypes and assess biomarkersrelevant to molecular-targeted therapies. This lecture summarizes the hot topics of immunohistochemistry in lung cancer, including:1- Adenocarcinoma versus squamous cell carcinoma2- Neuroendocrine markers3- Lung carcinoma versus malignant mesothelioma4- Metastatic carcinoma versus primary lung carcinoma5- ALK, ROS1, EGFR and PD-L1Major pitfalls in evaluating immunohistochemical results are also described.
