Nasal polyps with metaplastic ossification: Two case reports abstract

Nasal polyp is a common disease that usually follows allergy and sinonasal infection.Sometimes various histologic changes such as epithelial atypia and squamous metaplasia canoccur in nasal polyps. Metaplastic ossification rarely occurs within nasal polyps. In PubMedthere are only 3 records of this kind of case. It has been postulated that a substance secretedby abnormal epithelial cells in these polyps induces the ossification. In this paper two casesof a 40 years old female and a 28 years old male presenting nasal obstruction due to left sidenasosinusal polyposis, history of septoplasty & history of trauma to nose with nasal mass, respectively are described. They were operated on by means of endoscopic sinonasal surgery. The histologic diagnosis was nasal polyposis with areas of bony metaplasia.
