EXPRESSION OF FASCIN IN ODONTOGENIC KERATOCYST WITH DENTOGEROUS CYSTS AND AMELOBLASTOMA TUMOR abstract
Objective: The Objective of this study was to compares the Fascin Expression in the odontogenickeratocyst, dentigerous cysts and ameloblastomas .Background: Fascin is an acting Cross-linking protein Which play a major role in forming Parallelactin bundles and possibly associated with some tumor properties. However, The exact role of Fascinmarker and its correlation with the oral cavity tumors and cysts characteristics did not been studiedyet.Method: In a descriptive analytical trial, 34 odontogenic keratocyst, dentigerous cyst andameloblastomas was selected. The specimens stained with immunohistochemical method and theExpression of fascin marker was determined by monoclonal antibody of anti fascin. The markerExpression was correlated with the tumor location, patient’s gender and age using chi-square andstudent t tests. Results: In the ameliblast like epithelial island and stellate reticulum area of ameloblastoma and basaland supra basal layer odontogenic keratocysts and dentigerous cysts areas, 89% and 11.1% ofameloblastomas showed score 3 and 4 fascin Expression respectively; 7.7%, 23.1% and 69.2% ofodontogenic keratocysts demonstrated score 1 Expressions, 3 and 4 expression. No significantcorrelations were found between fascin expression ranks and tumor location, tumor type or patientgender, however, the patients with severe expression scores had lower mean age than patients withlower expression scores. Conclusion: Under the study limitations, fascin expression scores were similar in different tumor andcyst and due to the similarity of its expression pattern between odontogenic keratocyst andameloblastomas; it can be considered as a tumor rather than a cysts.
