CR1 deficiency in SLE abstract
The complement receptor for C3b and C4b (CR1) is asuumed to be critical in the binding ofcirculating immune complexes (CIC) to erythrocytes and in the clearing of circulatingcomplexes. It has shown that CR1 deficiency (CRD) is relatively common in patients withsystemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). So the aim of this study was to evaluate CR1 on RBCof patients with SLE.Blood samples of 70 Patients( 63 females)with SLE in age ranges 19-51 years old and 50apparently healthy people (45 females)in the same age were tested by Immune adherencehaemagglutination (IAHA)test was performed using the method of Miyakawa.All patients had positive antinuclear antibodies and CIC tests and a majority had elevatedanti-DNA antibody on several occasions. Erythrocytes from 21 of 70 patients with SLE(30%) showed no agglutination meant CR1D, whereas this was observed in only 7 (14%) ofthe 50 controls (P=0.041). CR1 activity was shown to be related to Disease activity andinversely anti-DNA test.CR1 might be used as a good marker to monitor disease activity.
