Skull base chordoma presenting as nasopharyngeal mass in a child abstract

Chordoma is a low-grade malignant tumor that arises from the remnants of notochord andmost commonly present after the age of 30 years. Spheno-occipital chordomas can rarelypresent as nasopharyngeal mass. We present the case of a 2-year-old girl, with progressiveanterior rhinorrhea. Exploration by oropharyngoscopy revealed that the soft palate wasprotruded by a soft mass, covered by mucosa. A head and neck CT scan found anasopharyngeal tumour which caused complete obstruction of the nasopharynx, with no signsof skull base erosion. Histological and immunohistochemical findings were in favor ofchordoma.
