An unusual presentation of Small Lymphocytic Lymphoma in mediastinal lymph node discovered at Coronary Artery BypassGraft Surgery: A case report abstract

Small Lymphocytic Lymphoma (SLL) is a systemic illness and, though indolent, is generallynot considered curable and may eventually require aggressive therapy in otherwise healthypatients. Lymph node involvement by low grade lymphoma can be clinically unrecognizedbecause patients usually have normal hemograms or nonspecific signs and symptoms. However, awareness of diagnosis at an early stage allows to have the most effective clinicalmanagement strategy. We report a case of incidental SLL discovered at CABG surgery. Themediastinal lymph node was evaluated by routine histopathologic methods complemented byImmunohistochemistry. It is recommended that abnormally enlarged lymph nodes detectedduring cardiac surgery or imaging evaluation, should be sent for histopathologic evaluation.
