A Survey on relationship between spiritual wellbeing and quality of life in multiple sclerosis patients abstract

Introduction: Spiritual wellbeing is an important aspect of health that may affect a person s quality of life, so that religion and spirituality as important resources for compatibility with stressful life events is considered. The present study was performed to determine relationship between spiritual wellbeing and quality of life in multiple sclerosis patients. Methods: this descriptive - analytical study was performed on 223 patients in community of research included members of Mazandaran Multiple Sclerosis Association (MMSA). The samples were selected by convenience sampling method. Data were gathered using particular questionnaires of spiritual wellbeing and quality of Life for MS patients (MSQOL-54). Collected data were analyzed by ANOVA, t-test and Pearson s correlation using SPSS software (V18). Results: The majority of samples with frequency of 71.7% had a moderate Spiritual wellbeing. The Mean±SD of quality of life was 50.2±12. Significant correlation observed between Spiritual wellbeing and quality of life (p=0.000). In addition, between quality of life and Duration of illness and economic situation was a significant relationship (P<0/05).Conclusions: The results showed that the higher the level of spiritual and religious beliefs, increased quality of life, so the role of spirituality as a component of health and quality of life of the patients and it is important in a country like Iran expressing religious beliefs and thought this issue that Care based on culture, spiritual orientation and a comprehensive view of the various aspects of health staff and patients can contribute to better services to patients with chronic diseases such as multiple sclerosis provider.
