Sand Storm Management of Highways in Iran

Sandstorms often happen in lost vegetation-free areas of the desert. It is often one of the most spectacular manifestations of desertification, well-known to many countries with long dry seasons. When sand encroachment assumes sizeable proportions it can lead to serious economic and social problems especially for the road users. To control the impacts of blown sand on a highways in Iran, methods of saltation by stabilizing the soil, or reducing wind speed at ground level, based on general principles have been evaluated and some practical solutions have been proposed.
