Abstract:
Present study employs two numerical schemes including Preissmann and Mac-Cormack in order to simulate water depth in a trapezoidal channel with a closed gate at the end of it. To this purpose, a 5-km-long channel was considered with bottom width and discharge of 1.6 m and 126 m3/s, respectively. The results of both schemes indicated that both methods simulated the same water depth in the channel if the gate is closed. However, both methods resulted in increases in the simulated water depth trend along the channel 500, 1000, and 1500 seconds after closing the gate at the end of the channel. It is worth noting that up to 2000 meters from the beginning of the channel and 2000 seconds after closing the gate the simulated water depth showed an increasing trend, and then declined.
