Abstract:
In this study, support vector machine (SVM) technique was applied to provide a land cover map of Qaemshahr district, Iran. The Advanced Space borne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) imagery was used for this purpose. Accuracy of the resulting map was assessed by calculating the user, Producer, and overall accuracies and the kappa coefficient. The results show that an overall accuracy and kappa values of about 94.91% and 0.94 is achieved for the SVM map. In conclusion, the SVM technique could provide a reliable result for land cover mapping in the study area. Therefore, the output map can be used in many applications in which land cover map is an ancillary or primary data source
