DEPRESSION IS RELATED TO HEALTHY EATING INDEX-2015 SCORE IN ADOLESCENCE: A CROSS SECTIONAL STUDY

Abstract:
Background and Aim: adolescence depression has a social and health impact on society, so its early detection is priority. Compared to physical health, less is known the relationship between the HEI and depression. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between healthy eating index and depression in Babol schoolchildren.Methods: This descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study was performed on girls aged 12-17 years, during Academic year 2016-2017.412 girls were selected from 8 high school in Babol. The healthy eating index score and score of depression, were measured using a 24-h dietary recall and the 42-item depression, anxiety, stress scales questionnaire, respectively. The HEI was calculated based on the Agriculture Healthy Eating Index (HEI) 2015. Data were analyzed using Chi-square, analysis of variance and multivariable logistic regression tests.Results: In total, 52% of the subjects suffered from depression, respectively. Mean HEI-2015 score was 57.78±19.37.HEI was significantly associated with depression. (r=0.819, Pvalue<0.0001) Conclusion: The HEI could be inversely associated with depression in adolescence.
