Abstract:
Background and Aim: Type 2 diabetes is a symptom of an autoimmune disease that causes acute phase response by cytokines .Patients with type 2 diabetes who suffer from symptoms, may show an impaired cellular antioxidant response to hyperglycemia-induced oxidative stress. Our purpose of this study was to evaluate of omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acid supplementation metabolic effects in patients with type 2 diabetesMethods: A blind randomized controlled trial was conducted with 70 patients with type 2 diabetes. The case group were given 3 capsules of omega 3 fatty acids ( 2015 gram of omega 3 ) Compare to placebo control group ( placebo contains of 2050 gram of sunflower oil ). At the first of study the blood glucose and lipid profile concentration were measured and compared to the final concentration which was determinedResults: Polyunsaturated fatty acids reduced the blood triglycerides concentration in intervention group significantly ( pv < 0.001 ) . Also, significant differences was seen in FBS and Hb A1C in the intervention group ( pv < 0.001 ) . Total cholesterol, HDL and LDL had not changedConclusion: Omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acid supplementation may leads to reduction in blood triglycerides in patients with type 2 diabetes
