ADHERENCE TO DIETARY RECOMMENDATION AND RELATED FACTORS AMONG INSULIN TREATED TYPE 2 DIABETES PATIENTS

Abstract:
Background and Aim: : Adherence to dietary recommendation is a main factor in diabetes management and provide better glycemic target and metabolic control in these patients. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the regimen adherence and related factors among insulin-treated type 2 diabetes patientsMethods: : A total of 150 insulin treated patients referred to Mashhad diabetes clinic were studied through a purposive sampling. Food intake was assess via a 3 day food record and analyses by the Nutritionist ІѴ(version 3.5.2) software, then compared with ADA2016 guideline. . related factors to regimen adherence was analyzed by using chi square. Analyses were conducted using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (version 16.0; SPSS Inc, Chicago IL).Results: The most adherence to dietary advice was about protein (94%) and the lowest adherence was seen about fiber(0%), Mono unsaturated fatty acids(16.6%) and sodium(18%). Female gender, higher income and greater education level was associated with higher adherence to dietary advice about carbohydrate and fat.Conclusion: Insulin treated type-2 diabetes patients reported a low adherence to dietary advice. Nutrition consultation should be considered as a main component of medical care in diabetes patients
