Abstract:

This paper presents an experimental measuring scour depth at spur dikes ending in a straight compound channel with symmetrically enlarge floodplain over a fixed bed in upside and clear water(u/uc<1). The compound channel is composed by two elements, the main channel that contains the permanent and faster flow, and the floodplain which is often shallow and where there is a slowly flow. Reliable estimate of depth of scour are essential for the design, operation and stability of spur dikes in river with floodplain. In this paper, the effect of distance between spur dikes on flow pattern and erosion and deposition of the sediment due to spur dikes with installed space between spur dikes 2L and 3L (L= length of spur dikes) in floodplain, as semi circular end shape are compared and results of experimental are showed in figures and tables.
