Simulation of Al-Cu explosive welding process: the effect of detonation, collision velocity on mechanical characteristics abstract
Explosive welding (EWX) is a joining method producing laminated metal composite with controllable thermal conductivity andideal mechanical properties and it has obvious economic benefits. In the current work, Al-Cu tube composite production by explosivewelding is simulated using finite element method by application of Abaqus software and mechanical characteristics of jointare investigated. The mechanical characteristics in the Al-Cu explosive welding process such as Von-Mises stress, pressure andequivalent strain plastic in fly plate and also normal direction of weld line for different detonation and collision velocities (Vd andVc) are presented. The interfacial morphology of the Al-Cu composite in the numerical simulations was compared with an experimentaltest.
