Effect of the Sintering Temperature on the Properties of Wall Tile abstract
This research investigated the effect of the sintering temperature on the properties of wall tilebodies. The raw materials were the clay minerals. The samples were formed by uniaxial press andthen sintered at different temperature (950-1300 °C) for h. The densification behaviour wasdescribed in terms of density, shrinkage, water absorption and hardness of samples. According tothe obtained results, the optimum sintering temperature for this wall tile composition was 1200°C which had the maximum values of density, shrinkage and hardness. This improvement indensification at 1200 °C could be attributed to the formation of liquid phase during sintering andthe minimum porosity value of the sample. Further increases in sintering temperature resulted inthe expansion of the tiny pores and the abnormal grain growth which could cause thedeterioration of various properties of wall tiles.
