Singability of Song Lyrics in Frozen Dubbed into Persian: A Comparative Study abstract
Song translation is now growing in number. The fact that songs are being translated more than ever and for different purposes such as opera surtitling or musical’s subtitling and dubbing, and the lack of enough studies on translated songs from English into Persian create an urge to study song translation within the realm of translation studies closely. There are many factors in music that can affect translating lyrics, elements like note-vales, rhythm, stresses and so on. A song translator’s task to translate a singable song requires flexibility and creativity in terms of semantics. But this is not the only factor that makes a translation singable. There are other elements that affect singability. This study aims at investigating these elements with a focus on the dubbing of distinctive phonetic features and accents and the consistent translation of intra-textual sentences in songs of the animated movie Frozen (2013) dubbed into Persian by comparing its two versions (by Glory Entertainment and Soren studios).
