Resource Allocation for Improving Network Throughput in D2D Communication Underlaying Cellular Networks Using Genetic Algorithm abstract

Cellular networks entails the ability of a cellular network to allow devices to communicate directly with each other in the operating (licensed) spectrum of the cellular network. On the other hand, the D2D user equipments (DUEs) can communicate by sharing the radio resources assigned to cellular user equipments (CUEs). The goal of using the D2D communication is improving the network throughput and increasing spectral efficiency. However, this communication mode introduces complications in terms of interference to both the cellular and other DUEs which is a challenge to radio resource allocation. In this paper, we select the proper DUEs for each channel and set their transmission powers, simultaneously to maximize the network achievable throughput while satisfying the interference constraint from the DUEs transmissions to cellular users. The problem is solved using the genetic algorithm (GA). Genetic algorithm is one of the nonlinear optimization methods and relatively better option thanks to its efficiency for large scale applications. GA defines the DUEs in the form of chromosomes and genes and the user’s quality of service needs are given as input to theGA procedure. Simulation results indicate that the network throughput is improved while the interference from the DUEs transmissions to cellular users is controlled with high accuracy.
