Optimal Capacitor Placement on the IEEE 9-bus System Equipped with Wind Turbine Based on Firefly Algorithm abstract

This paper presents a new method for determining the optimal location and size of capacitors on the IEEE 9-bus system to improve voltage profile and reduce the active power loss. Capacitor placement & sizing are done by using the firefly algorithm. In this research, after examining and simulating the studied IEEE 9-bus system and inserting the capacitor and connecting the wind turbine to the power system, STATCOM devices will be used to increase the system s controllability and stability. Then, the invasive weed optimization algorithm is employed to find the optimal location and size. Simulation results showed that the proposed method is capable of generating optimal solutions.
