Abstract:

Mechanical properties of woven composite materials influenced by the fabric geometry and harness. In woven fabrics, the harness can be defined as the number of warp and weft yarn which interlaced together and repeated. In this research, woven composites made of ML-506 epoxy resin as the matrix and E-glass woven fibers with three different texture geometry (in various harness 2, 5, 8) were studied. The composite plates were made using the hand lay-up method. The Specimens cut out from the composite plates and prepared according to ASTM D 3039 standard. The Young s modulus, ultimate tensile strength, and failure strain were investigated experimentally. The experimental observations showed that all three aforementioned mechanical properties were influenced by the texture geometry and the harness. Also, the results showed that the fiber breakage occurred on the crimp area of the woven fabrics.
