The Effect of Interactive Co-teaching on Iranian Intermediate EFL Learners’ Writing Ability

Abstract:

One of the recently suggested methods for accelerating and facilitating the education process is co-teaching model. co-teaching refers to an educational environment where two or more teachers cooperatively teach a group of students. The present study made an attempt to investigate the practicality of co-teaching in improving writing ability of Iranian intermediate EFL learners. In this study, 60 students of intermediate level who scored below the mean on a language proficiency test were selected randomly and were also assigned randomly into two groups, the experimental and control groups. The pretests of writing were administered to two groups. The experimental group was instructed EFL writing through co-teaching methodology; however, the control group received instruction in writing lacking co-teaching. After the instruction for each group (the treatment was just for experimental group), both groups received posttest. The results of the statistical procedures revealed that the participants of both groups performed significantly better on the posttest measures of writing but the experimental group learning writing through co-teaching outperformed the control group. The findings of the study have some implications and suggestions for EFL teaching and learning as well as further research.
