Performance analysis of biodiesel from grapefruit seed oil abstract
Today, due to global warming and the lack of adequate sources of fossil fuels, the need for alternative fuels is very important. Biodiesels are the best option because of their physical and chemical characteristics similar to those of diesel fuels and also the reduction of pollutants relative to diesel. We surveyed the ability of the grapefruit biodiesel to decrease the smoke emission as well as analyses the performance in diesel engine and compared to diesel fuel. In this research, grapefruit seed oil was used to produce biodiesel. The torque, fuel consumption and output soot at various engine speeds were studied. The results displayed that the engine performance could present that the difference between biodiesel and diesel fuel were nearby 3%-10%. Specific fuel consumption was superior with biodiesel to diesel due to the better combustion characteristic. Biodiesel soot emissions were inferior to diesel fuel because of the improvement in the specific fuel consumption
