How Sustainable Architecture attributes Improve Social Sustainability

Environmental psychology’s role in architecture is undeniable, which changes many side of our life by affecting on human’s mind. W. R. LETHABY in his Architecture book compares well-built factory chimneys—tall with minarets in Persia to known these similar shapes as equal beautiful, however he believes, the malign effect of chimneys’ smoke on the landscape was evidently a serious setoff against their unaffected reality. The mind unconsciously pierces far beyond mere shape to the soul of a building.Sustainable architecture’s concepts such as sense of place, place attachment and green buildings have devoted many researches in literature of architecture and urban design specifically in the environmental psychology context. It can be clearly seen the impact of these concepts on several aspect of interaction between place and human, which bring about other concepts such as identity and authenticity to individuals and places. First, this paper illustrates the concepts of sense of place and place attachment and then explains how these concepts in sustainable architecture sustain the community. Review the literature, this paper attains three feasible solutions to enhance social interaction and life quality, in order to achieve sustainable life.
