Comparison of Expert Systems for Earthquake Prediction abstract

Crisis happens due to unexpected and sudden occurrence of any incident or event, for which taking prompt consideration to make suitable decision is mandatory. Crisis management cycle is one of the important and essential points which shall be observed before, during and after crisis. From amongst these crises, earthquake is of certain importance due to its frequency of occurrence in most of the countries. In order to diminish the earthquake damages, it shall be predicted. Several methods, inter alia, mathematical modeling and ionosphere analysis have been conducted to predict earthquake, while the prediction accuracy of these measures is low. Recently, expert systems methods have been applied to predict earthquakes. In these algorithms different parameters such as fault behavior, concentration of radon had been used, by studying of which the earthquake occurrence frequency is estimated. Level of earthquake prediction accuracy of these algorithms is relatively higher in comparison to the previous methods. The purpose of this paper is identifying and comparing the level of accuracy and type of data used in different expert systems methods used for earthquake predictions. Studies and analyses indicated that expert system using more parameters has a relatively higher accuracy in comparison to the other systems.
