Abstract:
One of the most important parameters which keep the structures safe and stable during the earth quake is the appropriate interaction between the substructure foundation and the supper or buried structures. The interaction is closely depended on the behaviour characteristics of both foundation and structure. The structure behaviour is more apparent than the foundation would do; although, some laboratory efforts can make the manner of foundations more obvious. This paper is discussing on the behaviour of the lime and cement treated soils. For approaching the purpose, a laboratory effort is performed on well graded gravel almost use as base materials which has been treated with different mix designs. The method of sample production is discussed first. Then, the paper will go through the compaction characteristics of the treated soil such as dry density relation with moisture content and consumed energy of compaction. The elasticity modulus (Es) and compressive unconfined strength (Qc), are obtained from standard cylinder samples made for each mix design. At the end, the results are discussed and some relations would be presented for behaviour prediction of improved base materials.
