Analyzing the Socio-Economic Benefits of Commuter Train: Case Study Tehran-Hashtgerd

Majority of people living in suburbs prefer to go to metropolises for business or educational purposes. One of the most viable system which connects the metropolises intosmall suburban cities is commuter train . The goal of this study is to elucidate a case of study of Tehran-Karaj-Hashtgerd commuter train in order to evaluate the socio-economic benefits, based on commuter train passenger’s opinion in the form of questionnaire. For this study 1631 pcs of questionnaire have been gathered and analyzed for all the train departures in all days of week. Hashtgerd station has five departures to Tehran in the morning and one in evening, Hashtgerd station has one departure to Tehran in the morning and five in evenings. The main purpose of travel is business, the main workplace is private corporation and the main transportation mode for access to stations in Tehran and Hashtgerd is taxi. The study illustrates the socio-economic parameters about passengers and proposes required changes due to optimize the commuter train services. The first step is changing headways time table due to make more conformity to passengers’ demand
