Investigation of the Effects of Static Eccentricity Fault on Induction Motors abstract

This paper presents the effect of the rotor static eccentricity fault on the magnetic field in different parts of a squirrel cage induction motor using Finite Element Magnetic (FEM) method. An induction motor with different degrees of static eccentricity is simulated by FLUX software and the results are presented. The magnetic field distribution in the air-gap and the total axial magnetic force between the rotor and the stator are analyzed here. In addition, Unbalanced Magnetic Pull (UMP) in the air gap is calculated, and it is shown that static eccentricity has significant effect on the motor’s parameters. The equivalent electric and magnetic circuits of a motor with and without eccentricity fault are upon the eccentricity degree.
