Abstract:
Proverbs are concrete saying popularly known, express a truth, based on common sense or the practical experience of humanity. It is considered to learn proverbs because they provide good advice and we love to learn them for their practicality in our daily life. This study aimed to survey how making comic strips for each English proverb can affect proverbial phrases learning. To this end, ٤٠ pre-intermediate male students as two equal groups which were divideded randomly to an experimental group and a control group involved in this study. All proverbs were selected from ١٠١ American English Proverbs by Collis (2009) Having taken a pre-test to assign the proverb knowledge, the experimental group read comic strips which made by teacher for each proverb, whereas the control group just read simple story and conversation of each proverb. After treatment, a post test was carried out and the results of the exam with an Independent Sample t-test were analyzed and indicated experimental group outperformed the control group, therefore applying comic strips for teaching proverbs can improve proverbial phrases learning.
