Abstract:

The history of language testing has witnessed a host of approaches and methods for assessing different strands of language. One of the newly-utilized approaches is dynamic assessment with its two main formats: sandwich and cake formats. The current study, thorough a mixed method design (Quan. → Qual. design in Dornyei’s language (2007)), sets out to shed light on the effectiveness of the two formats of Dynamic Assessment on reading performance of 120 Persian EFL students. To be more detailed, the two formats were first practically applied on EFL learners reading comprehension skill; and then, the attitudes of the students on the assessment procedures were sought. Having done these stages, the study enumerated some strengths and weaknesses of the formats through students’ lenses; and finally called for the need for some modifications on dynamic assessment to compensate for the drawbacks
