Abstract:

This study attempted to carry out a comparative analysis of gender ideology in two translations of a novel A Thousand Splendid Suns written by the Afghan writer, Khaled Hosseini. He openly portrayed his gender ideology in his masterpiece to manifest the situation of Afghan women in the terrible context of Afghanistan in the period of ignorance and turmoil. The analysis of the translations related to some selected parts of the novel disclosed how the two different translators deployed their own ideology of men and women while rendering the ideas, events, and actions presented in the novel. Here selected analyzed extracts are provided to reveal these manipulations. The results can be useful for improving the pedagogical and conceptual purposes in the TS, as well as meeting the interdisciplinary goals in other areas.
