Abstract:
Considerable number of recent researches highlights the need of a suitable catalyst in medicinal chemistry which shows high-performance in theory and practice. Literature review indicates that dihydropyrimidinones (DHPM’s) are heterocycles with a pyrimidine moiety in the ring nucleus is an important class of biologically active nitrogen containing heterocycle. Thesecompounds in recent decades have aroused interest in medicinal chemistry due to alleged versatile biological activity.Pharmacological properties described over the last twenty-five years for dihydropyrimidinones and their derivatives compounds arereported include evaluations of anticancer, antiinflammatory, antihypertensive, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic,antithyroidic, antimuscarinic, antidiabetic, and hypolipidemic activities. In this research, we report the synthesis ofdihydropyrimidinones and their derivatives through Bigineli reaction in the presence of saccharin as an organocatalyst used in threecomponent reactions. The related procedure includes key-characteristics such as cheap, mild and environmentally friendly catalyst,high to quantitative yields and the reaction path is mild and involves facile workup procedure to obtain the desired products in shortreaction times.
