Equity, Adequacy, and Excellence in Education

This paper provides a brief summary of three important topics in the debate between private and public education: equity, adequacy, and excellence. These topics have often been used to both promote and criticize the privatization of public education, and it may be useful to revisit these topics. In particular, the relationship between these topics and the role of family choice in education may help to appreciate the financial decisions that are made regarding distribution of funds between private and public schools.
